San Francisco Giants thrashed Detroit Tigers 8-3 in Game 1 of their seven-match World Series encounter on Wednesday, October 24 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
"[I'm] excited to be part of the history, It's one of the things when you're a little kid, you're dreaming to play in the World Series," Sandoval said.
Giants played well throughout the game and eventually won in style. Their batters and hitters showed great temperament and did not allow the Tigers to dominate them.
“He had good stuff, I got a good pitch to hit," Sandoval said of Verlander.
Tigers’ however did not play well and lost in the end. Their pitchers were hammered with big hits while their batters could not connect well with the ball and lost the game with much disgrace.
Pablo Sandoval played wonderfully for the Giants and smashed four hits and scored three runs along with four RBIs while he also maintained his slugging percentage at 1.000.
Along with Pablo Sandoval, the Giants other senior batters also played with big energy and proved too good for the Tigers.
Centre fielder Angel Pagan scored two runs and smashed two hits on his four at-bats. He smashed the Tigers' pitchers and maintained his slugging percentage at .500.
Second baseman Marco Scutaro also did well on the plate when he scored two runs and smashed two hits along with two RBIs.
Giants’ pitchers also contributed in their team’s win. Starter Barry Zito pitched 5.2 innings and received one run only. He struck-out three while his ERA remained consistent at 1.59.
“Just the opportunity alone [to start Game 1] was kind of mind-blowing, Me and my wife, we were like dancing around and stuff just for the opportunity. This is just icing on the cake. To be able to have the boys come out swinging and play unbelievable defense, Blanco out there getting it done. ... For us to get the win is huge," Zito said.
Reliever George Kontos also did well on the mound and proved one of the winning factors for the Giants. He pitched 0.1 innings and received two runs and two hits with great consistency.
