San Francisco Giants thump Arizona Diamondbacks 0-6 – MLB Recap
San Francisco Giants defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 0-6 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, September 26 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
"When there's an error, [Cain] doesn't get distracted, If anything, he tries to pick them up. That's what he's so good at. He has that great focus you like out there and he did it again tonight," Giants' manager Bruce Bochy said.
Starter Matt Cain once again showed his magic and earned a great victory for his team. He pitched seven solid innings and received only four hits. He did not give any run and remained calm on the mound with his 2.77 ERA.
He retired six potential Diamondbacks’ batters and literally won the game for the Giants.
"That's kind of what you want to do as a pitcher when funky plays happen behind you, It's the same things if we make bad pitches. We're looking for those guys to pick us up," Cain said.
"Cain shut us down, He could throw any pitch at any time to any place he wants. We didn't swing the bats well at all," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said.
Relief pitcher Guillermo Mota also showed his offensive play and helped his team to oust the Diamondbacks’ with great focus.
He pitched 0.2 innings spell but managed to strike-out one Diamondbacks’ hitter on his 5.03 ERA.
Jeremy Affeldt pitched 0.1 innings and received only one hit on his consistent 2.82 ERA.
Along with pitchers, the Giants' batters also played well and showed their offensive plays with big energy.
Second baseman Marco Scutaro scored one run and smashed two hits on his four at-bats. He also ran for an RBI as he also maintained his slugging percentage at .400.
Right fielder Hunter Pence also batted well on his four outings as he scored one run and smashed one hit on his consistent .420 slugging percentage.
On the other hand, the Diamondbacks just played poorly and lost in the end. Diamondbacks’ pitchers and hitters did not show any fighting spirit and could not save the game for their team.
