San Francisco Giants upbeat ahead of decisive clash against St. Louis Cardinals in NLCS – MLB Update
San Francisco Giants are showing optimism ahead of their crucial clash against the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of National League Championship Series on Friday, October 19 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
Giants’ manager and some of their veteran players are persistent that they will bounce back in the series on Friday night.
This will be a final game for the Giants’ if they do suffer a humiliating defeat from the Cardinals.
“These guys, they're fighters, And this club has so much character. We've been through something like this, and we've had our ups and downs. But I've said this so many times, how tough they are and how resilient they are," manager Bruce Bochy said.
It is expected that starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner will be throwing for the Giants. Though it is still not certain but according to some media reports, Madison is likely to start the game.
Madison started the first game of the NLCS but could perform well. He was hammered with big hits and received six runs and eight hits. He pitched 3.2 innings and hammered with two home-runs on his blistering 14.73 ERA.
Cardinals’ will test once again Lance Lynn who has already pitched in Game 1 of NLCS. In that particular game, he pitched over three innings spell and received four runs and five hits. He struck-out three and managed to win the game for the Cardinals.
Lance Lynn commented ahead of Friday’s game and said, "I'm as strong as I've ever been all year, and the playoff start was good to get, Wish I could have done better the first one, I've got a lot to learn from that one. It's a good first season, You have a season like that when you're only 24, 25, it gives you a lot to look forward to."
Meanwhile, both teams know that they have a very good chance to stay on top. If Cardinals’ win, they will go through to the World Series but if the Giants win, they will prepare themselves to start another beginning to rattle the Cardinals out of the competition.
