I was mailed back a letter to attend sheriff cadet physical exam and the oral interview Im really looking forward to this I feel this will be a great oppurtunity to become a police officer but i understand that they have to run a background check on me. previously i applied a senoir care job and they pulled my background and they pulled up a misdemeanor for a loud music two years ago other jobs i had ran my background and i passed it but i never even knew that was on my record and before i enlisted in the military two years ago i had to pay all tickets off before i could join and the only one i had was a speeding ticket i didn't even recieve a notice in mail for the music ticket but i want to know is will this harm my chances of getting in

and another question is do any one know any of the interview questions they ask you

  1. from someone who's been through these background checks before:

don't lie about anything..not that you would, but they're able to find "dirt" on just about everyone, and they want to see how you react.  im pretty sure you wont have to do a psych eval or a polygraph for a cadet position, but be ready for someone to ask you pointed questions about this conviction...because they WILL.  they're going to correlate loud music with you partying and drinking...again, not that this is the case but be prepared to be confronted in this manner, and be prepared to overcome it.  interview questions are usually based on a written questionairre theyve already given you...did you get one? but drugs, alcohol, and lifestyle choices are a common theme...along with some integrity type questions...what would you do kinda thing. .. .just keep your head on straight the whole time and remember that you have nothing to hide, and that this invasion of privacy is the price you have to pay in todays society to work in law enforcement.  you have to be that much better than everyone else.  good luck.

  2. Yes, getting the misdemeanor wasn't so bad! However since you failed to pay the citation it looks bad! Failure to pay puts out a warrant for your arrest! Although you have made a mends and finally paid the citation, it does not look good for you and will stay on your record! Chances are you might not get in, unless you have that offense expunged from your record!

  3. It matters.  You need to confront it with them as reasonably soon as possible so that you do not waste their time or your own.  There are many officers who managed to get on board with a few scraps with the law - sounds like yours is no big deal.  If it was drug related or worse - violent in any way - you'd be done.

Interview questions are simple - the are NO WIN questions.  What I mean by that is you will be given scenerios where there is no right or wrong answer; but what happens is they will make you feel like your answer is wrong to see if you change your mind - don't.  Stick with your answer!

  4. I think your bad writing is going to cost you more than an old misdemeanor charge.  Lots of cops have minor charges in their past - the important thing is to ensure that it is truly passed.

  5. This is America and you are not my king.  Therefore don't try and tell me I can't answer your question if I want to.

As far as your questions, it may hurt your chances to get in, but, it may not.  Hard to say until you submit yourself to the process.  And I am sure that they will ask for your entire name and address.  Probably a home phone number as well.  Good Luck
