San Francisco swimming pool public for beginners?

Question

Aside from taking a few swimming classes when I was a young kid, i haven't swam at all. Any swimming public places in san fran that is good, cheap, and not crowded?

public pools, such as rossi, balboa, mission, etc. are cheap. I think they admission is $1.50 for adult, $.50 under 13/14? (well it was that price 5+ years ago) for lap/rec swim.

St. Ignatius (SI) pool is more expensive ($4 admission) but generally less crowded. you usually get your own lane during lap swim hour, especially  on Sundays

i would actually try to get some swimming lessons before you actually try to swim on your own. I heard UCSF has a good adult learn to swim program.
