San Jose Sharks' Dominic Moore took time off for wife battling cancer -NHL Update
Dominic Moore definitely provides immense offensive depth for the San Jose Sharks, but the 31-year-old had to take time off during the crucial offseason for something far too important to miss and that was his wife, who is currently in a battle for life
and death with cancer.
The heartbroken player released a statement on Tuesday, June 5, 2012, in which it explained why he had to miss the final two games of the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Western Conference Playoff Quarterfinals against St. Louis Blues.
"There have been a lot of questions and concerns raised since it was revealed that I had to miss several games of the Sharks/Blues playoff series due to a family matter and I wanted to update extended family, friends, and former teammates on our situation,"
Moore explained.
Moore went on to describe how his wife had begun to feel ill and when the results of multiple tests came out, it was diagnosed as being a rare liver cancer. It is certainly a troubling moment for Dominic Moore’s family without a doubt, something which this
statement easily allows fans to imagine.
"Towards the end of the 2011-12 season, my wife, Katie, began feeling ill. We visited with local doctors, who suggested running a variety of tests to ascertain the cause of the issue. Ultimately, Katie was diagnosed with a rare liver cancer and it was recommended
that she undergo surgery,” he added in the statement.
Dominic Moore, a player acquired from Tampa Bay Lightning earlier in February of 2012 in exchange for a second round pick in the upcoming entry draft, was a major contributor for San Jose Sharks during the regular season.
He had a total of 25 points (4 goals 21 assists) in 79 games played with Tampa Bay and San Jose along with 54 minutes in penalty time.
San Jose Sharks saw an early elimination by St. Louis Blues, who ousted the team in just five games.
At the moment, it is believed that Dominic Moore’s wife, Katie, is still undergoing treatment in California.
