San Jose Sharks' Doug Wilson not confirming Todd McLellan’s availability for next season -NHL Update
San Jose Sharks’ head coach, Todd McLellan, very well might be the next man to go as general manager of the California based franchise, Doug Wilson, was unable to comment on whether the coach will be available for the upcoming National Hockey League (NHL)
regular season or not.
In an attempt to lay down the rumours, Wilson added that he would not be commenting on speculations, but since he did not really confirm anything else, they assumptions still float around about head coach Todd McLellan.
Wilson came out on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, to talk with the media.
"You know that I don't respond to rumours," Wilson said talking to the San Jose Mercury News. "We are doing our due diligence, and we are looking at every way to improve this hockey team."
Most hockey circles are confident that McLellan will be returning for a fifth straight season with San Jose Sharks while setting up the condition that it very well might be his last if he does not manage to improve the club in terms of performance in the
postseason.
McLellan has done a lot for San Jose as he led Sharks twice to the Stanley Cup Western Conference Playoff Finals, but did not have any success in getting past that point. This past 2011-2012 NHL regular season was a little more disappointing as he failed
to get the Sharks club past the opening round as they were eliminated by St. Louis Blues in five games.
With McLellan on the hot seat, there are assistant coaching staff changes expected during the offseason, but Wilson added that he would rather wait for the Stanley Cup Finals to be done and over with before he considers making any moves.
It was sure that if Todd McLellan failed to get San Jose Sharks into the postseason this time, he would have been cut out of the spot without a doubt, but since he managed to get back and stayed where he was in the West.
Updates on the situation are expected as soon as the playoffs come to a close later on in June.
