San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings facts before Game 7
Game 7 of the semi-final series between the San Jose Sharks and the Detroit Red Wings holds great significance.
This is only the eighth time in the history of the National Hockey League that a team has taken a series into game seven after they were down 3-0. Coming to the facts, in both cases, if the Red Wings win, or, the Sharks win, the history books will be changed.
A win for the Sharks would not only mean much from an emotional point of view but also the fact that they might see a big change in their fortunes after the series.
The Vancouver Canucks, who won the President’s Trophy this time out, were up against a decent Chicago Blackhawks side. However, they weren’t the same Hawks team that won the Stanley Cup last year.
The Canucks were looking good, as they led the series 3-0. The Hawks came up with a superb performance that witnessed the Hawks winning the next three games and levelling the series on 3-3.
Some experts speculated that the Canucks were down and out but they were successful in winning the seventh game in overtime to move into the semi-finals. After this, questions were raised as to whether or not the Canucks would be in the best conditions to
face the Predators in the second round and how much effect the first round series would have.
Certainly, there were times when the Canucks looked vulnerable but in the end they wrapped up the series in six games to book a spot for themselves in the Western Conference Finals.
However, the series against the Hawks was very significant considering the fact that the Canucks became only the fourth team to be pushed into game seven after they led the series 3-0.
Now, the interesting fact is that the last three teams that had their series pushed into Game 7, went on to win the Stanley Cup. Both teams, San Jose Sharks (if they make it into the Finals), and the Canucks might meet each other in the Finals, which would
eliminate one of the seven-game winners.
Thus, there is a very high probability of history repeating itself. But if the Red Wings win the semi-final series then the Canucks will be the favourites to win the Stanley Cup if we predict the future keeping history in mind.
