San Jose Sharks’ coach Todd McLellan yet to know fate as GM Doug Wilson retained-NHL News
San Jose Sharks’ coach, Todd McLellan, is yet to know if he is coming back to the side for another season after one of the poorest runs of the team in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) season.
The team has given another chance to general manager, Doug Wilson, with new targets set in front of him for next season.
The owners of the club are reported to have reposed their confidence in the GM but expect him to introduce changes needed to prepare the team for next season.
While assuring the GM that he will be back to San Jose with fresh targets in the development of the team at certain positions, the coach is said to be keen on knowing if he is also lucky to win another opportunity from Sharks.
Sharks were ousted from the playoff quarterfinal series and the owners are apparently displeased with the team’s performance.
In a statement released from the team’s headquarters, the owners said they will not be lowering their expectations with regard to the team’s performance next season.
The statement reads:
"We will not lower our expectation that every San Jose Sharks team we put on the ice is capable of winning the Stanley Cup."
It added:
"Despite the fact that our team has experienced a tremendous amount of success over the past eight seasons, we are not satisfied with those results and neither is Doug. The ownership group has confidence that Doug will make the necessary changes to ensure
our club remains among the NHL's elite franchises."
Wilson is reported to be already on to his task of rebuilding the team. He had a meeting with each player since the team’s ousting from Stanley Cup contention on April 21.
The GM who has been busy in consultation with the players and assistant coaching staff to help himself set the tone of changes, which he is going to implement as preparations for the next season, is expected to meet McLellan next.
It is then probably that the coach might know his fate. So far, nothing seems to be very encouraging for any of the officials.
