San Jose Sharks defeat the Anaheim Ducks 4-2 – NHL Recap
The San Jose Sharks played host to the Anaheim Ducks at the HP Pavilion Centre this Saturday and won the game 4-2 in the end. The game saw the Ducks looking for a crucial two points that would bring them near to the National Hockey League play-off cut while
the Sharks were looking to win and come close to winning their fourth consecutive Pacific Division title.
Though the first period was relatively dry in terms of goal attempts by both teams, the Ducks and the Sharks were seen constructing some brilliant plays. The Ducks showed their productivity with two superb goals that put them in the lead. The second period
saw the Sharks coming out strong on the attacks which resulted in the home team bagging two goals to level the score. The final period was again not only dominated by the Sharks, but also saw them scoring twice to win the game in the end. Their defence was
also fabulous in the last two periods that saw them cutting down attacks repeatedly and slowing down the scoring. However, the Sharks won the game 4-2 in the end. Devin Setoguchi, winger of the Sharks was named the Star of the Game, as he scored a goal and
made two assists during the game.
The offence of teams did not meet expectations, as it was predicted that there would be a rain of shots on goal. One of the reasons for this not happening was the tight defence that both teams had. The Ducks on the other hand, despite playing away, were
able to get past the opposing defence.
The Ducks scored in the fourth minute through Bobby Ryan from a quick fired shot to get into the lead. The Sharks also came across a few scoring chances, but they were unsuccessful in scoring. However, the Ducks continued with their productive performance
that saw them scoring once again in the 12th minute through Lubomir Visnovsky to double the advantage.
The period ended with the Ducks leading 2-1, as they made seven shots on goal while the Sharks managed six attempts.
The second period saw quite a few more shots on goal, but it was the Sharks who took advantage of this, as they scored in the third minute through Dany Heatley from a brilliant back-hand shot to cut the lead.
The Sharks continued to pile pressure on the opposing team that saw them scoring once again in the 13th minute through Patrick Marleau from another superb back-hand shot to level the score. The period saw some brilliant and certain scoring chances
for both teams, but there were no further goals.
The period ended with the score level on 2-2 with the Sharks making 13 shots on goal while the Ducks managed 10.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Sharks on top in both defence and offence and they managed to score in the 15th minute through Devin Setoguchi to get into the lead from a powerful strike.
The Sharks scored once again in the final minute through Patrick Marleau from a well placed flick-shot to win the game 4-2 in the end. During the period, the Sharks made 14 shots on goal while the Ducks made five attempts.
