San Jose Sharks defeat the Calgary Flames 6-3 – NHL Recap
The final game of Wednesday was played at the HP Pavilion Centre, as the home team San Jose Sharks beat the Calgary Flames 6-3. The game was important for the Sharks, as they were looking to draw closer to the second placed Detroit Red Wings while the Flames
were fighting to stay in the National Hockey League play-off cut.
The game started off with both teams making a decent start, but it was the Sharks who scored the opening goal to get into the lead. The Flames managed to level the scores, but the Sharks scored once again. The see-saw battle continued and the Flames levelled
the scores once again. The Sharks with some strong offensive play scored twice before the period ended to get into the lead. The second period saw both teams scoring a goal piece while the Sharks scored the lone goal of the final period to win the game 6-3.
Torrey Mitchell, centre of the Sharks was named the Star of the Game, as he scored two goals during the contest.
Both teams were strong on the offence at the start and it was the Sharks who scored in the third minute through Torrey Mitchell to get into the lead. The goal was scored as a result of a brilliant shot. The Flames managed to level the score with another
goal in the eighth minute which was scored by Captain Jarome Iginla from a decent flick-shot.
The Sharks managed to score once again in the 10th minute through Andrew Desjardins to get back into the lead. However, the Flames managed to level the scores with a goal in the 14th minute scored by Corey Sarich from a powerful strike.
The Sharks managed to score twice in the 15th and 18th minute to take the lead. The goals were scored by Patrick Marleau from two brilliant shots. The period ended with the Sharks leading 4-2.
The second period saw the Flames scoring in the 14th minute through Rene Bourque to cut the lead to a single goal. However, the Sharks were able to respond to this with some decent plays that saw them scoring in the 16th minute through
Mitchell once again from a back-hand shot.
The period saw both teams making several more shots on goal, but the period ended with the Sharks leading 5-3.
The final period saw the Flames making 9 shots on goal while the Sharks managed 8 attempts. The Sharks scored the lone goal of the period in the 12th minute through Logan Couture to win the game 6-3 in the end.
It will be interesting to see how the Sharks manage to carry their winning momentum into the remaining games of the season. The team is working hard finish at the top of the table before the NHL play-offs begin.
