San Jose Sharks defeat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 – NHL Recap
The second last game of Saturday was played at the Jobing.com Arena as the Phoenix Coyotes suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of the San Jose Sharks. Both teams are in the National Hockey League play-off cut, but were looking to win and improve
on their third and fourth positions in the standings.
The game started on the slower side for both teams, but it was the Sharks who scored the opening goal to get into the lead. The Coyotes were not far behind, as they scored a goal to level the score. The second 20 minutes of play saw the Sharks on top, as
they were very strong on the offence and scored early on to get back into the lead. The Sharks with some strong plays scored once again to double the advantage and ended the period leading 3-1. The Sharks scored the lone goal of the final period which resulted
in the Sharks winning the game 4-1 in the end. Logan Couture, centre of the Sharks was named the Star of the Game, as he scored two goals and came up with an important assist.
Both teams were slow out of the blocks, but the game caught pace as both teams started to fire shots on goal. The Sharks were the first to find the back of the net in the sixth minute that put them in the lead.
The goal was scored through a brilliant back-hand shot by Logan Couture. The Coyotes were not far behind, as with some strong plays and individual skills they scored in the very next minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Mikkel Boedker from
a well placed flick-shot.
The Sharks made a few more shots on goal, but none of the shots found the back of the net as the period ended with the score level on 1-1. During the period, the Sharks made 9 shots on goal while the Coyotes managed five attempts.
The second period began with the Sharks on top once again and they were able to get back into the lead with a goal in the fourth minute, which was scored by Joe Pavelski from a decent back-hand shot.
Both teams came up with shots on goal often, but it was the Sharks who were on target once again in the 16th minute that doubled their lead. The goal was scored by Ryane Clowe from a well placed flick-shot, as the period ended with the Sharks
leading 3-1.
The final 20 minutes of play were again evenly matched by the two teams with the Sharks making 12 shots on goal while the Coyotes managed 11 attempts. However, once again the Sharks showed their productivity scoring the lone goal of the period through Logan
Couture to win the game 4-1 in the end.
