San Jose Sharks defeat the St. Louis Blues 5-3 – NHL Recap
The San Jose Sharks beat the St. Louis Blues 5-3 in an exciting game at the HP Pavilion Centre on Saturday. The Sharks were looking to close the gap on the Detroit Red Wings for the second position in the National Hockey League standings. The Blues wanted
to put in a good performance, as their chances of making their way into the play-offs are slim.
The game started off with the Sharks dominated the proceedings early on, as they were able to score twice in the fifth minute and then later to take the score to 3-0. The Blues tried to make a come-back, during which they came up with more than a dozen shots,
but were unable to score any goals. The second period was again productive in terms of shots on goal, but it was the Sharks who scored twice, while the Blues scored once to lead 5-1 as the period ended. The final period saw the Blues scoring twice, but it
was the Sharks who won the game 5-3. Joe Pavelski was named the Star of the Game, as he scored three goals and an important assist.
The Sharks got off to a flying start that saw them scoring in the fifth minute through Torrey Mitchell from a flick-shot. The Sharks continued to pile pressure on the opposing team and scored once again in the same minute to double their lead.
The goal was scored by Joe Pavelski during the power-play from a powerful strike. The Sharks were very strong on the opposition and they managed to score once again in the 8th minute through Pavelski, again during the power-play. The Blues came
up with some strong attacks, but no goals were scored during the remaining part of the period.
The period ended with the Sharks leading 3-0, as both teams made 15 shots on goal.
The second period was very productive in terms of shots on goal, as the Blues scored the first goal of the period with Timothy Hensick scoring from a well placed flick-shot. However, the Sharks managed to score once again in the 13th minute through
Devin Setoguchi to regain the advantage.
The Sharks scored once again in the final minute through Pavelski from a decent tip in shot. The period ended with the Sharks leading 5-1. During the period, the Sharks made 14 shots on goal, as the Blues managed 15.
The Blues were strong in the final period, as they scored in the 8th minute through David Backes from a powerful strike. The Blues piled up shots and scored once again in the 19th minute through Andy McDonald from a powerful strike.
The period and the game ended with the Sharks winning the game 5-3. During the final period, the Blues made 15 shots, as the Sharks came up with just five shots on goal.
