San Jose Sharks devour Anaheim Ducks 5-1 in preseason matchup -NHL preseason update
San Jose Sharks cleared all the opposition in their path for the second straight time as they devoured Anaheim Ducks in game-two of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) preseason, 5-1, on Friday, September 23, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
It was San Jose’s second straight win against Anaheim Ducks and almost as brutal as the first, in which they won 6-1.
Anaheim has certainly seen much better days, but their loss against San Jose just might be the evidence they need fix all those aspects of their game which need immediate attention. Not only are they facing their second straight loss against Sharks, it is
the third defeat including their first matchup against Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday.
Matt Irwin started the scoring at 15:21 into the first period by putting San Jose ahead by one on Anaheim’s first penalty of the match as Corey Perry was called for hooking. Dan Boyle extended the lead on a striking shot with less than two seconds remaining.
Douglas Murray carried on the scoring process by potting one of his own a little less than halfway through the second period, giving Mike Moore his second assist of the night.
Ryan Getzlaf finally broke the spell and took advantage of an added man advantage off of a pass from Cam Fowler as San Jose’s Matt Pelech was booked for hooking.
Torrey Mitchell seemed unfazed by the attempt at breaking their scoring streak by Getzlaf and shot the puck through Anaheim goalie, Dan Ellis, which ultimately resulted in him being called back by Ducks head coach, replaced by backup goaltender, Jeff Deslauriers.
Andrew Murray finalised the matchup with the games last goal and his second of the preseason as Mike Moore earned his third assist during another power play opportunity. Fights broke out between Brad Winchester and Mark Bell during the closing minutes along
with Brandon Mashinter and Francois Beauchemin, which had fans on the edge of their seats.
San Jose Sharks hope to continue this streak against Phoenix Coyotes when they face them on Saturday at home. Anaheim on the other hand will face Vancouver Canucks on Saturday in Canada.
