San Jose Sharks dominate Tampa Bay Lightning with 7-2 win -NHL Update
It was easy to see that the San Jose Sharks were smelling blood entering their Wednesday night matchup, on December 21, 2011, against the Tampa Bay Lightning, which they found and dominated, 7-2, at the sold-out HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, United
States.
Coming straight in San Jose looked like a team that had its focus on something much bigger than just winner, it was more about making an impression against a top scoring team in the National Hockey League (NHL).
With all the coach firing going around in the league nowadays, San Jose felt that it was more than a requirement that they show that they are capable of winning big matches, now having won three straight along with snapping Tampa Bay’s two-game winning streak.
Benn Ferriero triggered the scoring spree which did not stop until the final five minutes of game play left in the opening period which followed by Joe Pavelski for his 14th of the 2011-2012 NHL regular season on their first power play advantage,
than Andrew Desjardins and Logan Couture with two back-to-back nearly a minute apart including one on their second power play.
Tampa Bay was unfortunate to have given two penalties in the opening period which cost them as the Sharks did not let even on chance slide by.
Dominic Moore finally managed to break the momentum with his first of the night and third of the season at the 15:38 mark which had the Sharks retaliate throughout the second period which was scoreless until finally making a comeback again in the third.
San Jose killed of two straight penalties in the second period and came back in the final 20 minutes as Brent Burns scored 1:15 into the third followed by Tampa Bay’s second with Martin St. Louis scoring his 10th and Patrick Marleau making a breakaway
shot unassisted to conclude the game and scoring.
The Sharks are still hungry and will be looking for another win to stay perfect in their six-game home stand when they host state rivals, Los Angeles Kings on Friday while Tampa Bay Lightning have the next against Colorado Avalanche the same day.
