San Jose Sharks edge past Los Angeles Kings in Game 1
The San Jose Sharks hosted the Los Angeles Kings this Thursday at the HP Pavilion Center, with the Sharks winning the game 3-2 after overtime. This was the inaugural game of the quarterfinal clash between the two teams in the Western Conference.
The game began with the Sharks on target after constructing the very first play of the game. As soon as they took the lead, Sharks stepped-up their pace further and attacked, but were unable to score. The Kings also managed a few shots on goal intermittently,
but they too were unsuccessful in scoring. The Kings came out strong in the second period and scored to level the points. Both teams added a goal each, leaving the scores levelled on 2-2 in the end. They were fairly even in terms of shots on goal in the final
period, however, the absence of goals continued. The game went into overtime, where the Sharks scored winning the game 3-2 in the end. Joe Pavelski was named the star of the game as he scored the game winning goal.
The Sharks were absolutely brilliant at the start of the game to say the least. They capitalized on their superb start that saw them scoring in the very first minute through Dany Heatley, from a decent backhand shot.
The Kings were able to come up with a few shots occasionally, but it was the Sharks who emerged as the dominating force in the period. They displayed some excellent passing and shooting, and created several chances for themselves.
However, there were no further goals and the period ended with the Sharks leading 1-0 as they made 14 shots on goal, while the Kings made three shots on target.
Both teams started the second period strong on the offence. The Kings were awarded a power play, which saw them scoring in the eighth minute through Dustin Brown from a powerful strike to level the scores.
The regular season star of the Sharks, Logan Couture, scored in the 11th minute to put the Sharks back into the lead. Both teams were high on confidence, and the attacks continued with the Kings scoring through Justin Williams to even things once
again.
The period ended with the scores levelled on 2-2 with the Sharks making nine shots on goal, while the Kings made 16 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play witnessed the defence of both teams on top; no goals were scored once again. The Sharks made eight shots on goal in the period, whereas the Kings made seven, none of which found the back of the net.
The game went into overtime as the scores evened on 2-2 at the end of regulation. The Sharks won the game 3-2 with Joe Pavelski scoring in the 15th minute from a well placed shot.
