San Jose Sharks eye fourth straight win as they face Anaheim Ducks – NHL Preview
Quite late in the season, San Jose Sharks have found their rhythm and if they could maintain the present winning run with just six more games left for them to play, there will be nothing stopping them from playing in the playoffs.
On the other hand, Anaheim Ducks are still alive in the competition, but they are ranked below the comfort zone in the Western Conference and their chances of playing in the postseason are very unlikely.
Sharks and Ducks are going to face each other on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Honda Center, Anaheim, California.
Here is a look at both teams.
Sharks
At the moment, they are leading the Pacific Division and are ranked third in the Western Conference with 88 points after 76 games.
Sharks have not performed well during the last couple of months, but they seem to have found their winning run just at the right time.
Sharks are currently on a three-game winning streak with the victories coming against Boston Bruins (2-1), Phoenix Coyotes (4-3 after shootout) and Colorado Avalanche (5-1).
In their last game, Sharks easily overpowered Avalanche. After the goalless first period, Sharks scored three in the second period while giving away one goal and added two more in the final to win the game.
Sharks’ centre, Joe Pavelski, said after the recent win:
"We've seen how fast things can happen. We've been on both sides of it. Leading the division right now doesn't matter."
Coach, Todd McLellan, said:
"The fact that we got the two points is the most significant thing, not where we are in the standings. You can not play a game and drop three spots."
Ducks
They are ranked at 12th spot in the Western Conference with 75 points after 76 games and are 12 points behind the eighth-ranked Phoenix Coyotes.
Ducks have lost three out of their last six games with the recent defeat coming against Boston Bruins (3-2).
Ducks have six more games to play in the next season and a single defeat could also officially eliminate them from playoff contention.
Predictions
Sharks have an edge.
The sum of goals scored by both teams might be six or more.
If Ducks win, the winning margin will be less than two goals.
