San Jose Sharks finally click and come up with a win to trail by one game (Part 2)
Even though San Jose Sharks kept Vancouver Canucks on the back foot for most of the first period, Canucks was still able to come up with shots on goal through their star player, Ryan Kesler.
Kesler worked his way past the opposing defence through some brilliant work in the middle but couldn’t find the back of the net. As the period came to an end, there was no second thought about the fact as to why Canucks was trailing in the game.
It was the penalty minutes that was hurting them badly and saw the opposing team scoring goals to gain a 3-0 advantage over them.
Sharks felt good on the day and their play-making was quite impressive as they made seven shots on goal during the power-plays. Two of the goals scored during the power-plays also showed that the team was in superb form.
"They got going, too", Daniel Sedin said. "When they score they feel good about themselves".
In the first two games, Canucks fell behind Sharks but on each occasion they were able to regroup and win the game.
This time there was no coming back for Canucks with Sharks on fire and scoring goals every now and then.
"Our strength is rolling our four lines", Bieksa said. "We feel like we have more depth than the other team, but when we're in and out of the box it's tough to get anything generated. It just really takes us out of our rhythm".
Even though Logan Couture, one of the expected goal scorers, wasn’t on the scoring sheet this time, he did quite a lot for Sharks. He was one of the players alongside Dany Heatley and Ryane Clowe, spending significant time in the opposing half to open up
spaces for others to help them score goals.
"It's not just the power play, it's the people that draw the penalties that allow us to go out there and score those goals", Marleau said.
Sharks was brilliant during the power-plays and scored three of their four goals during power-plays. With no goals in the second period, the game went into the final period with Sharks leading 3-0.
Canucks scored an early goal after which Sharks extended their lead with a goal through Dan Boyle in a power-play once again.
Canucks also scored twice during power-plays and the final with about four minutes of play left.
