San Jose Sharks get into the lead with a 6-5 overtime win over Los Angeles Kings – NHL news
The third game of the quarter-final series was hosted by the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Centre as the San Jose Sharks claimed victory over the home team 6-5 in overtime this Tuesday.
The series was tied on 1-1 with the Sharks winning the first game and the Kings winning the second. Despite the fact that the Sharks played this thriller on away ice, they managed to win and now lead the series 2-1.
The Kings were on top of their game from the start and like the previous game, they scored two early goals to get into the lead. The Sharks were able to come up with a few shots on goal but it was the Kings who scored once again just as the period was ending.
The second 20 minutes of play saw the Kings scoring once again at the start, but it was the Sharks who rallied back scoring three goals to trail by a single goal. The Kings scored once again but the Sharks bagged two more goals to end the period on level terms.
The final period saw quite a few shots on goal, but there were no goals as it ended with the scores level on 5-5. In overtime, the Sharks scored and won the game in the end. Sharks winger Devin Setoguchi was named the star of the game for his winner.
The Kings were on the attack right from the start and scored two quick goals in the third minute to put themselves in the driving seat. The goals were scored by Willie Mitchell from a flick shot and Kyle Clifford from a well placed backhand shot.
There were a couple of more chances for both teams to score but this did not happen until the 19th minute when the Kings scored once again through Michal Handzus to lead 3-0 going into the break.
Brad Richardson scored in the very first minute to take the score to 4-0 in favour of the Kings. However, it was all about the Sharks after that. They scored two quick goals in the fourth and seventh minute to keep their comeback hopes alive. The goals were
scored by Patrick Marleau and Ryane Clowe respectively.
Logan Couture joined the party with another goal in the 14th minute but was followed by a Kings goal scored by Ryan Smyth.
Nevertheless, the Sharks scored in the 19th minute through Clowe and in the 20th minute through Joe Pavelski to level the scores on 5-5 as the period ended.
The final period witnessed the Sharks making nine shots on goal while the Kings made five. Unfortunately, neither of the teams was able to find the back of the net as the regulation time ended with the scores level on 5-5.
Resultantly, the game went into overtime where the Sharks scored through Devin Setoguchi in the fourth minute to win the game 6-5 in the end and lead the series 2-1.
