San Jose Sharks heat up with 4-1 win over struggling Colorado Avalanche -NHL Match Update
San Jose is heating up once again in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season as the Sharks won their third straight matchup against the struggling Colorado Avalanche, 4-1, who have lost four of their past five contests now, Sunday night,
November 20, 2011, at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, United States.
Patrick Marleau recorded his first hat trick of the season, which obviously allowed the Sharks to take control of the contest with an extra goal by the veteran forward in each period.
Colorado’s goalie, Jean-Sebastien Giguere did not have as rough of a night as his counterpart in the San Jose net, Thomas Greiss did, as the former faced only 17 shots throughout the contest while the Sharks goalie dealt with 37 attempts on his end but still
remained focused by blocking 36.
"He was strong for us all night," Marleau said about Greiss. "They came at us in the third. They were shooting from far out and he was able to handle them. He was out playing pucks and allowing our ‘D' to get good breakouts so we didn't get hemmed in as
much."
Matt Duchene scored his ninth of the regular season in order to give the home team a lead in the first period while Patrick Marleau answered back nearly five minutes later after they failed to capitalise on a power play opportunity with Kyle Quincey being
booked for tripping midway through.
Patrick Marleau and Joe Pavelski scored two straight for the San Jose Sharks at the 7:35 and 16:47 mark respectively.
Entering the third period down 3-1, the Avalanche were extremely tense at the idea of them having to score three more just to tie the game, but that obviously did not happen as Marleau added his third and final of the night in the final minute of regulation
to take the match.
"They're a very skilled team and if you make a mistake against them, it's probably going to be in the back of your net," Duchene said about San Jose. "It's disappointing. Their goalie played very well for them."
It will certainly be interesting to see if San Jose can continue winning their upcoming matchups with the same momentum.
