San Jose Sharks hoping for better performance in game 2
The San Jose Sharks were hoping things would get better for them after a close series with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Red Wings managed to crawl their way back into the series even though the Sharks were leading 3-0 after the first three games. However, the Sharks held their nerves and successfully won the final game in the series to secure a spot in the Conference
Finals against the Vancouver Canucks.
Game 1 of the series was expected to be a tight one and this certainly proved to be the case. The Sharks were leading, as the final period started but once again they failed to understand what went wrong.
Unfortunately, the Canucks scored twice during the final period to grab game 1 of the series with a 3-2 win.
The Sharks took the initiative to have a look at some clips from the game in order to identify their mistakes. However, according to reports there wasn’t anything extra that they found out except from the fact that they needed to play better.
"It looked very much like the game itself. We weren't surprised this morning at all", Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. "As much as we were hoping to see a different game, it was that game".
"We were slow", he said. "We didn't get to the battles that we needed to get to, and when we got there, quite frankly, we were out-battled. It's as simple as that. I can't paint any more of a picture than that. And, that will have to change".
The players also agree to the fact that they needed to improve their game if they wanted to win the series. They said that it was still early times in the series but that doesn’t mean they relax. Indeed, the Sharks need to step up their pace and win games
and not leave it to the final game this time out.
The disappointing line in the game was the crucial and most productive line in recent games of Logan Couture, Ryane Clowe, and, Dany Heatley, that had a great affect on the team’s overall performance. The players admitted their mistakes and are ready to
improve on them.
This certainly puts the Sharks in a good position as they are determined to win the next game and will be well prepared this time out. The second game of the series takes place on Wednesday (May 18, 2011) at the Rogers Arena, as the Sharks hope to level
the series 1-1.
