San Jose Sharks left bewildered after a shocking 7-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks at the Rogers Arena
The San Jose Sharks looked to learn from their mistakes in the second game of the Western Conference Finals on Wednesday, May 18th, against the Vancouver Canucks at their home, the Rogers Arena. However, they succumbed to a shocking 7-3 defeat
to trail the series by 2-0.
The game saw the Sharks scoring an early goal in a power-play. Logan Couture scored to put the Sharks in the lead, early in the first period. However, later, once again like the first game, Couture was disappointed as they were defeated and this time he
commented after the game that the performance of the team was embarrassing.
The Sharks made a promising start to the game but they were unable to carry their momentum. The Canucks not only out-shot the Sharks while playing at the Rogers Arena in the second game but completely thrashed them by 7-3.
"You lose 7-3, not many people play well, I didn't play well and the list goes on", Logan Couture said. "It's embarrassing. That's the only word that comes to mind about tonight. We're in the conference finals, in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and to put an
effort out like that … we can't feel bad for ourselves. I feel bad for the fans and for the coaching staff that we gave an effort like that tonight".
The Sharks got back into the game midway in the first period as they levelled the scores, 2-2, with Patrick Marleau scoring the goal. The goal was once again scored during a power-play.
The start of the second period witnessed the teams coming out totally different. The Canucks definitely was the better of the two teams and created chances that led them near the goal on several occasions.
Even though the Sharks came up with nine shots in the period, they were not as well worked and threatening as the Canucks, striking 14 shots. The Canucks scored the lone goal of the second period to get into a 3-2 lead as the teams went into the final break.
"There were times we missed assignments", Couture said. "I missed a couple assignments. Against those guys, on the power play, they're too skilled and they'll make you look stupid".
The Sharks were completely out-played in the final 40 minutes of play as they were outshot 25-18 and the Canucks scored four goals compared one by Sharks.
Despite scoring two goals on power-plays, the Sharks lost the game, 7-3, to fall behind the Canucks, 2-0 in the series, making things difficult for themselves.
