San Jose Sharks play host to the Detroit Red Wings
The San Jose Sharks will be hosting the Detroit Red Wings at the HP Pavilion Centre in the final game of Thursday. This is the fourth and final meeting between the two sides. The Sharks lead the series 2-1 currently and are in good shape to wrap up the series.
The Red Wings won the first game of the series 5-3 while the Sharks came up with decent performances in the last two games which saw the Sharks winning 5-2 and 4-3 in the end. Both these teams are among the best of the teams in the National Hockey League.
The Sharks are in hot form as they have won seven games in row starting from the 22nd February 2010 and then a 2-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche after shootout this past Tuesday. The Red Wings on the other hand had their six games winning
streak snap as they were defeating 2-1 by the Anaheim Ducks this Wednesday.
The Red Wings were in good form before their recent game against the Ducks. The Red Wings were on the winning roads to notch up their seventh consecutive win as they led by a goal with 20 minutes of play left.
However, the Ducks were able to find their way back into the game and score the equalizing goal right at the end.
The Red Wings failed to capitalize from the power play they got during overtime which resulted in the Ducks scoring and winning the game 2-1 in the end.
"They did a good job and put some pressure on us," Coach Mike Babcock said. "Their goalie made some saves, and we missed a couple of open nets. The game was set up for us to find a way to get a win, and we didn't."
The Red Wings have played 64 games during the season so far out which they have won 39 games in regulation time, seven games in overtime to score a total of 85 points. On the other hand, the Sharks are behind the Red Wings as they have won 37 games in regulation
time, six games in overtime out of the 64 games they have played. They are third in the Western Conference with 80 points.
The Sharks saw most of their games played during the month of February on away ice. Now they come back and face the Red Wings on home ice.
Sharks will be playing in the second game out of the six consecutive home games that are coming their way. The Sharks will be playing their last 12 games on home ice out of the 18 games left.
"We get most of the games at home this month which is fun to play in front of all our fans,” forward Devin Setoguchi said. “We did a great job being on the road and getting wins, but now we have to play in front of our own fans and get some wins. It’s always
exciting to come back and play at the Tank.”
