San Jose Sharks re-sign forwards Benn Ferriero, Ben Guite to one-year deals –NHL offseason Update
San Jose Sharks strengthened their fourth line on Friday, July 8, as they re-signed centre player, Benn Ferriero and right winger, Ben Guite, to one-year deals each of which the financial terms and conditions were not officially disclosed, but it is believed
that the former was signed to a contract worth $605,000.
Ferriero, a 196 number pick in round-seven of the 2006 National Hockey League (NHL) by Phoenix Coyotes, will be entering his third season with San Jose.
The 24-year-old from Boston, Massachusetts, United States, never played with his original team, but was dealt to Sharks and continued to play with his college team, Boston College Eagles, up until being signed by San Jose.
He played his first 24 NHL games with the club during the 2009-2010 season, in which he was able to put up five points (2 goals, 3 assists) and end up with a plus-minus rating of four. For the remaining 58 games of the season, Ferriero played with their
American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate farm team, Worcester Sharks, and scored an amazing 50 points (19 goals, 31 assists).
Last season, Ferriero, registered career high statistics by playing 33 games and registered nine points (5 goals, 4 assists) and finishing off with a plus-minus rating of eight.
Ben Guite on the other hand, became a free agent after playing only six games with Nashville Predators last season and continued to play in the AHL with Milwaukee Admirals.
The veteran forward, selected in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft by Montreal Canadiens during round-seven, played his first NHL game with Boston Bruins during the 2005-2006 season. He only played a single game that season.
The 32-year-old from Montreal, Quebec, Canada, played three consecutive seasons with Colorado Avalanche. During the 2007-2008 regular season, Guite achieved a career high by playing 79 games and recording a total of 22 points (11 goals, 11 assists).
Since the details of Guite’s contract, other than it being a one-year deal, have not been revealed, it is most likely that he has been given a two-way contract and will play with their AHL affiliate for a major chunk of the upcoming season.
