San Jose Sharks seal dramatic 5-3 win against Chicago Blackhawks
Joe Thornton gave the San Jose Sharks a decisive lead in the third period, before Ryan Clowe sealed a 5-3 victory for his team against defending champions, the Chicago Blackhawks.
Both teams started the game off sluggishly, as neither team was able to find their momentum early on. However as the period progressed, the teams put together some brilliant attacking moves and created a number of scoring opportunities. Both sides’ defences
were equally eager to impress, and managed to keep the scores level. The game opened up a bit more after the 10th minute, and it was the Hawks who drew first blood. Patrick Sharp scored in the 16th minute from a well placed flick shot to give the hosts the
lead.
That lead didn’t last long though, as the Sharks managed to draw level in the 19th minute through Scott Nichol. The period ended with the score at 1-1. During the period the Sharks made seven goal attempts, while the Hawks made 10 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams evenly matched. They created some decent openings, while maintaining a good defensive line. The San Jose Sharks scored the first goal of the period in the second minute to take the lead through Ben Ferriero goal. The Sharks
continued to press on and struck again in the 14th minute to establish a two-goal advantage. The goal was scored by Dany Heatley.
The Chicago Blackhawks worked hard too and their perseverance was rewarded in the final minute of the period. The home team scored two goals in the final 30 seconds of the period to tie the game. The first goal was scored by Troy Brouwer, while the second
was scored by Brain Campbell as the period ended with scores level at 3-3. Both teams made eight goal attempts.
The final period was evenly matched as the Sharks made 10 goal attempts compared to the Hawks 11 goal attempts. However two goals for the Sharks proved to be the difference. The first of the goals was scored by Joe Thornton in the eighth minute to give his
team the lead. While the second was scored in the final minute by Ryan Clowe as the San Jose Sharks won the match 5-3.
