San Jose Sharks sign deals with 3 others; John McCarthy, Frazer McLaren and Jonathan Matsumoto
San Jose Sharks have re-signed two of their last season players John McCarthy, Frazer McLaren and signed another forward Jonathan Matsumoto who is former Florida player. These 3 are not the only signings of the San Jose Sharks as they had re-signed their
forward T.J. Galiardi few days back.
On Thursday, these deals were announced and according to them, McLaren and Matsumoto are signed for one year whereas McCarthy is signed for two years. And according to Capgeek.com, Frazer McLaren has signed one year contract worth $632,500, Jonathan Matsumoto
has signed one year contract worth $600,000 and John McCarthy signed two year contract worth $612,500 per each year.
All three of these players are not very highly rated and have not performed very well in past few years but things that San Jose Sharks interested in them is that they have very long careers in front of them and a lot to offer as they all are very young.
Frazer McLaren is twenty-four years old whereas both John McCarthy and Jonathan Matsumoto are twenty-five years old. So their below par performances can be justified by considering their inexperience and young ages.
John McCarthy had joined San Jose Sharks in 2009 after playing in Juniors Hockey with Boston University Terriers. He played just 4 games in the season, without scoring any goal and was later sent to Worcester Sharks, San Jose Shark’s affiliates in American
Hockey League (AHL) where he played 74 games scoring 15 goals and 27 assists. He was given much more chances next year with San Jose Sharks as he played 37 games, scoring 2 goals and 2 assists. He couldn’t get any goals or assists last season after playing
10 games.
Frazer McLaren’s career has also been pretty similar to McCarthy’s. He had also joined Sharks in 2009 and played just 23, 9 and 7 games in 2009, 2010, 2011 seasons respectively. He has played total of just 39 games in last 3 years and scored 1 goal and 5
assists in them.
Jonathan Matsumoto has also not got much of his chances in NHL but has changed two teams in last 2 years. In 2010-2011 season he played for Carolina Hurricanes, in 2011-2012 season he played for Florida Panthers and now San Jose Sharks would be 3rd
team in 3 years that he will represent.
