San Jose Sharks stun the Detroit Red Wings to win 4-3 Game 3, series 3-0 - NHL
The Detroit Red Wings hosted the third game of the semi-final series. Before the match they were up 2-0 against the San Jose Sharks in the series and the 4-3 win at the Joe Louis Arena this Wednesday saw the Sharks put another nail in Detroit’s coffin.
The game was important for the Red Wings as they were playing on home ice and had to win to keep hopes of a comeback alive in a series that they were trailing. However, it was the Sharks who won and put themselves only one win away from the Conference Finals.
The game started off with both teams firing shots on goal but it was the Sharks who scored the opening goal of the game. The Red Wings followed close by and scored a goal in the final minute to keep the scores on level. The Red Wings were the stronger of
the two teams at the start of the second period and scored a goal to get into the lead. Both teams scored a goal apiece and the period ended with the Red Wings leading 3-2. The Sharks showed some team work and dominated in the final period and scored the only
goal to level the scores once again. The game went into overtime as a result and it was the Sharks handy stick-work that helped them win the game 4-3 in the end. Devin Setoguchi, winger for the Sharks was named the star of the game as he scored three goals.
There were quite a few shots on goal by both teams at the start of the game but it took the players a bit longer to find the back of the net. The Sharks came across a power-play and scored in the 13th minute through Setoguchi to get into the lead.
The Red Wings also gave all they had and scored through Nicklas Lidstrom during a power-play to level the scores. The period ended with the scores level on 1-1 with the Red Wings making 12 shots on goal while the Sharks made 11 goal attempts.
The Red Wings were on top of the game as the second period started. They came up with a superb passing and shooting display. The Red Wings scored through Patrick Eaves from a backhand shot to get into the lead in the 14th minute.
However, the lead didn’t last long as the Sharks scored through Setoguchi in a power-play to level the scores. The Red Wings also came across a power-play and scored through Pavel Datsyuk to get back into the lead. The period ended with the Red Wings leading
the game 3-2.
The final 20 minutes of play witnessed the Sharks coming out as the dominating force and they successfully score the lone goal of the period through Dan Boyle to level the scores at 3-3. The period ended with no further goals.
As a result, the game went into overtime where it was the Sharks who scored through Setoguchi to win the game 4-3 in the end and lead the series 3-0.
