San Jose Sharks win 2-1 against Detroit Red Wings in game two – National Hockey League semi-finals
San Jose Sharks beat Detroit Red Wings 2-1 in the second game of the Western Conference semi-final series on Sunday at the HP Pavilion Centre.
The game was a very close one and the Sharks used the home advantage to the fullest by winning and taking a 2-0 advantage in the series as they look to make their way into the Conference finals.
The Sharks made a very strong start to the game which saw them piling up shots on goal and creating chances for themselves. They scored the lone goal of the period to get into the lead. The Red Wings came up with quite a few shots on goal but they were unable
to score. The second period witnessed the Red Wings coming up with shots on goal consistently. The Sharks were the dominating authority in the period as they piled up several shots on goal. The Sharks were the quick starters once again as they scored early
in the second period to double their advantage. Although the Red Wings scored a goal later on in the period but they fell short by a goal. The game ended with the Sharks winning 2-1 in the end and goalkeeper Antti Niemi of the Sharks was named the star of
the game for his 33 saves.
The Sharks got off to a strong start to the game that saw them coming across an early power-play. This resulted in them piling up quite a few shots on goal after which they finally scored in the fifth minute through Ian White from a powerful strike to get
into the lead.
The Red Wings came up with quite a few shots on goal as well but they were unable to find the back of the net. The period ended with the Sharks leading 1-0 as they made 7 shots on goal while the Red Wings made 12.
The Sharks got out of the blocks quickly in the second period with the Red Wings responding in a decent manner as well. However, the Sharks proved to be the dominating force in the period as they piled up shots consistently. Unfortunately, neither of the
teams was successful in scoring as the period ended goalless with the Sharks leading 1-0.
The Sharks made 19 shots on goal in the period while the Red Wings made 9 of those.
The Sharks were on top once again as the final period kicked off and they scored through Niclas Wallin from a well-placed flick shot in the second minute. This effectively put them in a two-goal lead and in a good position to win the game.
The Red Wings scored a goal through Henrik Zetterberg in the 14th minute to cut the lead to a single goal but this was all that they could manage. The period and the game ended with the Sharks winning 2-1 in the end.
