San Jose Sharks win 3-2 against the Columbus Blue Jackets
The third game of Wednesday saw the Columbus Blue Jackets play host to the San Jose Sharks at the Nationwide Arena. There was a decent outcome of people to witness the 810th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Premier Series.
Columbus Blue Jackets established two goals to their advantage after which San Jose came up with a splendid performance which saw the Sharks scoring thrice over the course of the two periods to win the match 3-2 in the end. Kyle Wellwood of San Jose Sharks
was named the star selection after he scored the all important goal for the Sharks.
San Jose Sharks made a decent start to the game which saw them attacking and coming up with decent passing. There was decent defence maintained by both teams so no goals were scored early on. Even though San Jose Sharks had a few decent and relatively easy
chances to score but they still failed to find the back of the net.
However, the home team with the backing of the fans grew in confidence and momentum in their favour. Blue Jackets attacks started after a few minutes and intensified as time passed. Much to the delight of the fans, Columbus Blue Jackets scored through Kristian
Huselius from a brilliant flick shot in the 10th minute.
The Sharks continued to attack and even after scoring there still plays got better and better. There were several chances for the Blue Jackets to score further goals but they failed to score. However, the team pushed forward once more as the period neared.
Blue Jackets were rewarded for their hard work with another goal in the final minute scored by Grant Clitsome from a powerful long range shot.
The period ended with Columbus Blue Jackets leading 2-0 as they made 16 goal attempts in the period while San Jose Sharks made 6 goal attempts.
The second period began with the Sharks making a very strong offensive start to the game. They attacked right from the word and immediately scored in the second minute through Kent Huskins from a very well placed flick shot to cut the lead to just one goal.
Both teams started to make attacks which resulted in the puck going up and down the ice every now and then. Though both teams had several chances to score and strengthen their chances of a win but this didn’t happen. However, the home crowd was silence as
San Jose Sharks scored in the 14th minute through Kyle Wellwood to level the scores. The period saw a few more goal attempts as the period neared its end but no further goals were scored.
The scores were level on 2-2 at the end of the period with San Jose Sharks making 17 goal attempts while the Columbus Blue Jackets made 12 goal attempts.
The final period saw the Columbus Blue Jackets making a great start while attacking. San Jose Sharks amazingly matched the Blue Jackets counter attacking them every time they attacked and left open spaces at the back.
It took some time but San Jose Sharks scored through Patrick Marleau from a flick shot to get into the lead in the 16th minute. The goal proved to be the difference in the end as San Jose Sharks won 3-2 in the end.
