San Jose Sharks win 6-3 against Los Angeles Kings to lead series 3-1 – NHL playoffs
The fourth game of the Western Conference between Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks was played at the Staples Arena on Thursday that saw the Sharks winning 6-3 in the end.
The Sharks were already leading the series 2-1 and needed the win to stomp their authority and come close to making their way into the semi-finals. The game was also very important for the Kings as they needed to level the series. However, they could not
take advantage of playing on home ice and it was the Sharks who won to lead the series 3-1.
The two teams were very good in the starting minutes of the game and there were quite a few shots on goal. However, none of the shots was able to find the back of the net. The Sharks were on fire at the start of the second period and scored three goals to
take the lead. The Kings also got better with the passage of time and scored twice to cut the lead to a single goal. The Sharks came out strong in the final period and scored three opening goals to get themselves into a comfortable position. The Kings also
bagged a goal but it was the Sharks who won the game 6-3 in the end. Ryane Clowe was named the Star of the Game for his two goals.
There were shots on goal right from the start of the game but the early shots were not able to find the back of the net. The passing and shooting of both teams was superb but they lacked the final touches.
The period ended with both teams firing a couple of shots in the final minute but they were not successful in finding the back of the net. The Sharks made 13 shots on goal while the Kings made 9 of those.
The second period saw the Sharks scoring through Ryane Clowe in the fourth minute. The Sharks kept on piling the pressure and scored once again in the sixth minute through Jason Demers to double the lead.
The Sharks came across a power-play that saw them scoring once again through Clowe. The Kings managed to respond with a goal in the 11th minute through Brad Richardson’s shot. Justin Williams also scored a goal in the 17th minute to
cut the lead to a single goal as the period ended.
The final 20 minutes of play saw the Sharks scoring twice in the third and fourth minutes through Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski to get themselves into the driving seat. The Sharks scored once again through Torrey Mitchell with the Kings scoring through Alexei
Ponikarovsky.
The period ended with the Sharks winning the game 6-3 as they made 4 shots on goal while the Kings made 12 such attempts.
