San Jose Sharks win fourth game in a row winning 3-2 in overtime against the Pittsburgh Penguins
Another one of the important games of Wednesday was the inter-conference game which was hosted by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Consol Energy Centre as they were up against the San Jose Sharks.
Both the teams are in the top half their conference but needed a win to ensure that they would finish in the play-off spot.
The scores were level as the final period began. During the final 20 minutes of play, both teams scored a goal apiece and the scores were level on 2-2 at the end of the regulation time.
However, the Sharks managed to score during overtime to win the game 3-2 in the end. Patrick Marleau of the Sharks was named the star of the game for his two goals.
The home team made a decent start to the game that saw them coming scoring chances right from the start of the game. Though they fans were fully behind the Penguins right from the start but they were unable to find the back of the net.
However, with the passage of time the Penguins got better and with the strong offence the home team scored in the 6th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Tyler Kennedy from a decent flick shot.
The Sharks got better and created chances for themselves. However, despite the numerous chances that the teams got, they weren’t able to score.
This remaining the case from the rest of the period as the 20 minutes of play ended with the Penguins leading 1-0. During the course of the period, the Penguins made 6 goal attempts while the Sharks ended up making 11 goal attempts.
The period started with both teams making a strong start once again. However, this time it was the Sharks who scored in the 4th minute to level the scores.
The goal was scored by rookie Logan Couture during power play from a quick fired shot to find the back of the net.
The period continued with both teams coming up with shots on goal every now and then but neither of the teams was able to find the back of the net.
Though there were times when it looked as if one of the teams would score but this didn’t happen.
The period ended with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the period both teams made 9 goal attempts each.
The stage was all set for a very exciting and entertaining final 20 minutes of play. The Sharks got into the lead as they scored early in the final period. The goal was scored by Patrick Marleau from a spectacular backhand shot.
The period continued with both teams continuing to attack and with the passage of time the shots started to increase.
It looked as if the Sharks would win the game but the Tyler Kennedy scored in the final minute to level the scores.
The period ended with this as the score were level on 2-2. During the final period, the Sharks made 14 goal attempts while the Penguins made 8 goal attempts.
The game went into overtime where the Sharks scored through Patrick Marleau in the 5th minute to win the game 3-2 in the end.
