San Jose Sharks wins 3-2 against the Nashville Predators after overtime
The final game of Tuesday was played at the HP Pavilion Center as the home team, San Jose Sharks, played host to Nashville Predators.
The game was important for both teams with Sharks looking to continue their surge to the top of the table in the Western Conference while Predators with a win could move in the play-off cut.
The game began with both teams scoring goals in each of the first two periods.
There were some brilliant pieces of plays constructed by both teams but there weren’t as many goals.
The final period was expected to provide a few goals but this didn’t happen as the period ended goalless with the scores on 2-2.
The game went into overtime where Sharks scored to win the game by 3-2 in the end.
Patrick Marleau was named the star of the game as he scored the winning goal in overtime.
The teams made a very strong offensive start to the game where they not only fires shots on goal but displayed some excellent passing abilities.
They constructed some decent plays which got them past the opposing defence every now and then.
With the offence that was on display a goal was sure to be scored. Sharks were the first to score as they bagged a goal in the 9th minute which was scored by Ryane Clowe from a decent strike. Both teams continued to attacks and pile up shots.
Predators managed to score in the 15th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Joel Ward from a brilliant shot during power play.
The period saw several more shots on goal but no further goals were scored as the period ended with the scores level on 1-1. Predators made 13 shots on goal during the period while Sharks made 10 shots on goal.
The second period was again very strong offensively for teams. Sharks scored in the fifth minute through Justin Braun during power play to get back into the lead.
However, the lead didn’t last long as Predators scored in the seventh minute through Shea Weber during power play to score once again and level the scores.
The period was dry in terms of shots on goal and no further goals were scored as the period ended with scores level on 2-2. During the period, Predators made 6 shots on goal while Sharks made 7 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play saw Sharks being the more dominating teams as they came up with some very strong plays and shots on goal. During the course of the period, Sharks made 13 shots on goal while Predators made 4 shots on goal.
There was no chance in the scores which meant that the game had to be decided in overtime as the scores were level on 2-2.
Patrick Marleau scored in overtime in the fourth minute through a flick shot to win the game 4-3 for Sharks.
