San Jose Sharks wins 4-3 against the inform Detroit Red Wings
Another one of the top tier teams clash saw the Detroit Red Wings playing host to the San Jose Sharks at the Joe Louis Arena. This was the clash between the second and fourth placed teams in the Western Conference and was expected to be a very close and
tough encounter.
The first period saw the Sharks scoring the only goal of the period and leading at the end. The next two periods saw both teams scored three goals each therefore the game ended with the San Jose Sharks winning the game 4-3 in the end. Joe Thornton, centre
of the Sharks was named the star selection of the game as he scored a goal and made two assists.
After a slow start to the game, both teams changed their strategies which resulted in the period turning into an offensive battle. Though the Red Wings were reluctant to make attacks after attacks but the Sharks weren’t hesitant to pile shots every now and
then.
The Sharks displayed a strong performance in the period but weren’t able to near the goal from where they could come up with final touch. The Red Wings defence was very organized and came up with a decent performance.
However, the Sharks offence got better with the passage of time and outplayed the opposing defence to score in the final minute of the period to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Joe Thornton from a brilliant backhand shot during power play. The
period left the Red Wings and fans stunned as they conceded a goal in the dying stages after coming up with such a tight defence throughout the first period.
The period ended with the Sharks leading 1-0 as they made 18 goal attempts in the period while the Red Wings made 10 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams pretty much even as the Red Wings started the period with attacking mentality. They were the more productive of the two teams in terms of shots on goal which enabled them to score in the 8th minute through Danny
Cleary to level the scores.
However, the Sharks matched their counterparts in attacking and scored in the 15th minute to get back into the lead with Ryane Clowe scoring the goal. However, the joy was short-lived as the Red Wings scored once again in the same minute to level
the scores once again with Danny Cleary scoring his second for the night.
Unfortunately for the Red Wings it looked as if they were destined to end the period trailing as the Sharks scored once again through Devin Setoguchi in the 19th minute to get into the lead once again. The period ended with no further goals as
the Sharks led 3-2. During the period, the Sharks made 13 goal attempts while the Red Wings made 15 goal attempts.
The final period followed on the same roads but this time it was the Sharks who scored in the 14th minute to double their advantage. The goal was scored by Devin Setoguchi from a powerful strike to bag his second for then night.
Though the Red Wings scored in the 19th minute through Henrik Zetterberg’s quick fired shot, but it was a little too late as the Sharks won the game 4-3 in the end. The period saw the Sharks making 12 goal attempts while the Red Wings made 13
goal attempts.
