San Jose Sharks wins eighth in a row winning 3-1 against the Detroit Red Wings
The final game of Thursday was hosted by the San Jose Sharks at the HP Pavilion Centre as they played host to the second placed team Detroit Red Wings. Both teams wanted to win as they played catch up with the teams above them.
Both teams made a great start that saw them scoring a goal each. However, the Sharks emerged with a strong backline in the final two periods that didn’t allow and goals.
On the other hand, the Sharks offence was also very strong as they scored twice with a goal apiece in the final two periods to win the game 3-1 in the end. Dany Heatley, winger of the Sharks was named the star of the game for scoring two goals.
Both the teams started the period with an attacking approaching which saw goal attempts right from the start of the proceedings. It didn’t take long as the Sharks with seven consecutive wins confidence backing them bagged the first goal of the game to get
into the lead.
The goal was scored by Dany Heatley from a well placed flick shot in the fourth minute. The Sharks continued to pile pressure on the opposing team and came across several scoring chances. The Red Wings also came up with a few shots on goal but they weren’t
able to find the back of the end.
It looked as if the period would end with the Sharks leading but the Red Wings managed to score right at the end in the 19th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Tomas Holmstrom during power play from a simple tip in shot. The period
ended with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the period, the Sharks made 15 goal attempts while the Red Wings made 10 goal attempts.
The Sharks made a strong start to the second period which saw them scoring in the 4th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Dany Heatley during power play from a decent strike.
The Red Wing came up with quite a few shots on goal but they failed to find the back of the net as the period ended with the Sharks leading 2-1 as the teams went into the break. During the course of the period, the Sharks made 5 goal attempts while the Red
Wings made 12 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play started off on the slower side for both teams as they were reluctant to go on the attack early on. However, things smoothened for both teams with the passage of time. The Sharks managed to score once again in the 16th
minute to seal the game. The goal was scored by Patrick Marleau from a superb backhand shot.
The period and the game ended with the Sharks winning 3-1 as they made 8 goal attempts in the final period while the Red Wings made five goal attempts.
