  1. I’m not too excited about the new rent-a-sharks for 08/09.

Rivet and Carle for Boyle, Blake and Lukowich, slight upgrade only because with 3 new D this will help the Sharks either get rid of or trade Mclaren.

Rivet was rock on and off the ice, chemisty will be missed and Carle still has upside now the Ron Wilsons head games are gone.

Boyle overrated, Blake I thought he was going to retire and Lukowich again hopefully will push Mclaren out.

Grier was terrible last season too bad they didn’t unload him in the Boyle trade. Marleau had a strong playoffs after a marginal season I look for him to rebound, same with Cheechoo, he will never be a 50 goal man again but 30-40 goals is still good. Joe is Joe and I do like Roenick coming back for 1 more I repeat ONE more season. Pavelski, Setaguchi and Mitchell should take the next step in their respected roles but I’m just not sure if the Sharks forward core would be consider elite.

I think the McLellan move looks good on paper but with this many rent-a-players they needed a coach with more NHL experience not someone’s 1st gig.

I see the Sharks making the playoffs no doubt but again I stress the Rent-A-Players point that this organization missed it window in 07 when Nabby let that softie in Game 4 vs Detroit and now they stock piling a team full of “names” many which are out of their prime.

  2. The Sharks have always been a strong force.  But with such a long season and with so many factore that come into play such as injuries, its impossible to predict the final outcome.. I think the Sharks will definitely be in the playoffs.  Hopefully the Red Wings will be there again, too.  See you on the ice.

  3. For the past years the Sharks have had it in them to win the cup but they always choke in the playoffs

This year however is not gonna be their year for the cup but rather they fall in the conference finals because its a rebuilding year for them

They have a new coach with a new game plan; they lost key players in Matt Carle (who will be great this year) and Craig Rivet and i don't think the addition of Rob blake and Dan Boyle are going to get the Sharks into the Stanley Cup

Plus they need one more goal scorer, Joe is great at passing but the scorers in Marleau and Cheechoo seem a bit to inconsistent but watch for Setuguchi and Pavelski (they'll be good but not great)

  4. I think eveyrone believes Tom McLellan should be a good coach. That's not quite the same as being a proven head coach, which he is not. Not having to deal with that London thing should help them get off to a much better start than last year. That was a brutal start that they just couldn't seem to shake. I can see them taking a serious run this year. Don't know if they'll win it all, though.

  5. I think they'll be a force to reckon with this season. Now, all you have to really hope for is for Marleau to NOT  pull a Houdini during the playoffs if they get that far.

  6. San Jose, like many other NHL teams, will have a tighter feel towards winning. Since the NHL has become ever so competitive from the late 90's and unpredictable as to how 1-goal games end up, San Jose will need more than just 4 or 5 balanced guys in their lineup. They'll need atleast 10 or 12 players to be fluid in their lineup (strong, healthy, fit, disciplined, and skilful).

Because today's NHL is more stronger in goaltending and defence, centres and forwards will have to produce a bit more for their team. That would then be the better team in the NHL!

    Hope this helps

  7. I think that they will start off okay and get better as the season goes on.

  8. I think they'll do good.  The same as last year.  McLellan is a good coach yea, but Ron Wilson is a better coach I think.  But I think they'll do the same as last year.

  9. Like all the previous seasons, the Sharks will once again be a favorite by many to win the Stanley Cup.  Whether they come through and fulfill those projections is anyone's guess, but they are a solid pick to win it nonetheless.  They have a great mixture of forwards and defensemen and finally have a solid coach behind the bench that can possibly take them to the next level.  They will definitely make the playoffs, but what happens after that is where anything can happen.
