  1. San Pedro is a good choice, especially if you're a water baby like me!  Though it's very touristy there (something I am not used to, I generally keep to a more local spot) everyone is very friendly and I would go back, if for nothing else, for the diving!  Your best bet really is to just show up and shop around for tours & excursions; that's what I did.  I usually plan everything down to the last detail and though it unnerved me landing and not knowing what I was going to do, I found that there was a high percentage of people in the same boat as me.  The people there are very friendly (I ran into only one rude local in more than three weeks in Belize) and will help give you recommendations.  If you're a diver I would strongly recommend Amigos Del Mar dive shop located on the beach strip; they are PADI and have high safety standards that they adhere to.  Even if you aren't a diver, try it if you'd like it's unbelievable.  While there it's also worthwhile checking out Ramon's Village for an evening candlelit dinner you won't regret it.  Be sure to try their drink called "Purple Parrot" as a former bartender I have turned many people into parrot-lovers!  Most hotels there offer packages both on the island and trips to the mainland (cave tubing was really fun on the mainland) as well as stragglers on the beach who often actually give good & informative tours.  Sorry I'm rambling here, all of my memories from being there two years ago are flooding back.  Best of luck and if you have any other specific questions feel free to email me at giacarangi_99@yahoo.ca

    Cheers!
