  1. it is not as popular because well it just isn't.

I'm not aware of the marketing background of the art so I can't speak on the whys and hows because I live in a large city, I see lots of stuff that isn't popular but have access to it.

I'll have to defer to the people here who are in lesser known areas.

however I will say that fighting under san shao/san da rules might be a good transition from a pure striking game to an MMA game because unlike muai thai it has some level of grappling (throwing) but not the full range you would see in an MMA match.

  2. It is very useful and very effective full contact fighting system.  Just ask Frank Shamrock on how effective it is after his fight with Cung Le.

  3. yup san shou is useful, exept BJJ.

  4. Go ask Cung Le

  5. depending what kind of martial arts its against....

but i have neva heard of san shou before so i dont no really?

  6. It's not popular because it isn't a martial art that you can go to any strip mall and find...Cung Le has brought it to MMA and made good use of it. Sanshou combines punches, kicks Judo-like throws, and wrestling takedowns.

  7. Any martial art is only as good as it's practioner, this is true.  You must have no doubt or hesitation in your mind and no hesitation in your execution of technique.

San Shou combines all that you have mentioned and more.

San Shou is very effective, but only if you are commited to really working techniques smoothly and proficiently as with any fighting style
