Sanagas pointed toward the Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes on 19th November
Five-year-old gelding owned by Andreas Jacobs and under charge Graham Motion, Sanagas won the Sycamore Grade 3 on 20th October at Keeneland Race Course leaving Tahoe Lake second and Center Divider third in line after the winner.
The connections have planned the 19th November Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes Grade 1 at Hollywood Park to be Sanagas’s next target after the exuberant victory at Keeneland.
Out of the four starts this season, Sanagas was able to win two races. The first time when he raced this season in the Arlington Handicap Grade 3 on 7th September at Arlington Park, he came seventh with Tajaaweed winning the race.
Sanagas’s next attempt was in the John’s Call at Saratoga on 5th August for the distance of 1 5/8 miles where he stood first with Centre Divider being the runner up and Bold Hawk coming third in line.
The Bowling Green Grade 2 at Belmont Park on 10th September did not prove to be a win for Sanagas as he could only manage coming fourth. So his performance was somewhat inconsistent but not completely disappointing.
The Hollywood Park race for which Sanagas has been headed will be run on 1 ½ miles over grass, where Sanagas will encounter six other contestants that include Bourbon Bay who came eighth in the 2011 Northern Dancer Grade 1, Norvsky who claimed the 2011 Cal
Cup Classic, Falcon Beach will be there too who was the runner up for the 2011 Sunset Handicap Grade 3.
The ninth position holder at the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic Grade 1, Miss Match will also be contesting.
Positioned sixth in the Eddie Road Grade 1 Goldwaki will be participating too and to end the line up there will be Ashtar who came fourth in the 2011 Hirsch Turf Championship Grade 2.
Norvsky is the only competitor in the race who has come first in a race besides Sanagas herself. Last year the Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes was won by Barry Abrams trained Unusual Suspect with Corey Nakatani onboard.
Would this chance let Sanagas to break free from his pattern of winning a race only after losing one still has to be revealed?
