Sanam Singh and Toshihide Matsui clear the second qualifying round – Malaysian Open 2012
Sanam Singh crushes Yew-Ming Si 6-0, 6-1
Ranked 370th in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Sanam Singh, ruthlessly defeated the local challenger, Yew-Ming Si, in the second qualifying round of the Malaysian Open 2012, held at the hard courts of
Kuala Lumpur. The Indian contestant summed up his 6-0, 6-1 win on the eve of Saturday.
The right-hander Indian confidently held his initial serve throughout the opening set and progressed without facing any difficulty. He busted his rival’s serve the entire time in the set and did not give him
a single opportunity to dominate. Singh clinched all the games in a continuously and concluded the opener with a bagel.
In the next set, the 33-year-old Si commenced a sloppy start and the Indian grabbed the opportunity and capitalized the initial three games, stamping a 3-love lead. This time around, Si showed a little progress
and won a single game by the middle of the set. However, he could not prove his worth any further and eventually Singh nudged forward to terminate the match with a bread stick.
Both the player had a similar initials serve presentation of 52 percent, but Singh secured 20 of 27 first and 15 of 25 second delivery points. The Malaysian participant could only manage to convert five of 16
first and five of 15 second delivery points.
Toshihide Matsui prevails over Bruno Soares 7-6(5), 3-4
World number 452nd, Toshihide Matsui defeated the Brazilian native, Bruno Soares, in the second qualifier in Kuala Lumpur. Fortunately, Soares retired in the second set and Matsui summed up his 7-6(5),
3-4 win in approximately one hour and 34 minutes.
The starter set proved to a tough competition for the Japanese, as Soares dissolved his confidence by breaking his serve in the third game. However, Matsui proved a tougher deal and similarly he marked his lead
in the sixth game, by evening out the score line to 3-all. The Brazilin right-hander struggled hard to upset the rival as he levelled the score line to 6-all by the end of set. After a close tiebreaker round, Matsui emerged to the frontline as a surprising
victor, concluding a 7-6(5) lead.
The second set proved to be an easy contest for the 34-year-old Japanese. Although for the initial part Soares secured the lead by 3-love but his pace gradually died out after he clinched the initial three games,.
The Japanese senior grabbed the opportunity and broke his rival’s serve in the seventh game, but beyond that point, the Brazilin withdrew with a 3-4 score, bestowing the victory upon Matsui.
