Sand Dollars - how do I remove the spines?

On a recent beach trip, my kids picked up a bunch of sand dollars that still have spines. We dried them out but the spines didn't fall off. Do we need to soak them in a bleach solution or something? thanks in advance!

You are correct--- 1 qt of water + 1cup of regular bleach.  soak over night or for a day or so.  Rinse with plain water and put in the sun to dry.  Just be sure you don't drip the water on the carpet or a towel, it will take the color out.
