Sand and water problem?

i boght riverbed sand and put it in the water for my turtle (its my first time with sand)and i put the sand first and then the water and i turnd on the filter so its bin a hour and i cant see anithing itis looks the same from when i put it

  1. Sand is going to make your tank too hard to clean.  The water in a turtle tank should be completely changed every week, as poor water quality is the leading cause of illness.  Water filters do not remove ammonia waste!  Also, turtles in captivity commonly eat sand and gravel and become impacted.  I'd get rid of it ASAP.

  2. Omg...I had the same problem but with my softshell turtle.

    All the sand would do was move everywhere and cause a big mess to clean. So I found my birds, bird bath that they never used.  I used the bowl part of it for the sand. I put sand in it and water then the whole cage was water with basking area.

    I pilled rocks under the bird bowl thing so it wouldn't be un even and made the basking area same height. Works so great! I dont have to worry about cleaning the sand up.
