  1. sand is a lot of hassle

its hard to clean and one movement can stir it up into the water and they it can get into the filters and stuff

    fine gravel is much easier

  2. Sand can harm the impeller on your filter if you let it get into it. It may be safer to turn your filter off until the sand has settled.

  3. Sand in tanks is an awful problem as it causes the gears to lose lubrication and it's hard to maintan traction.  Once it gets into the gun, it is almost impossible to clear.

  4. sand is good, just dont use builders sand! use coral sand, as it brightens up the aquarium by reflecting light. the fish like it too

  5. what sort of tank, tropical (freshwater or Marine) because a marine will have to have sand but a tropical freshwater needs gravel with no lime stone in it. if you have you filter high enough in the water there should be no problem and find out where the intake is as this is vital
