Sandburg and Marist to contest Sandburg Sectional semi-final tonight: High School Volleyball
The Sandburg boys volleyball team is all set to compete against Marist tonight as the two teams will be fighting for a ticket to the finals of the Sandburg Sectional tournament.
Despite having handed out a defeat to Marist twice in this season so far, Sandburg is still approaching the match with a cautious attitude. The coach of Sandburg, Sean Airola, made the following comments about the upcoming semi-final match between the two
teams: “We’re both two totally different teams, and those other two matches don’t matter at all. The match starts at 0-0 and goes from there. Marist has a different element, a different feel, and they always play hard.”
Tonight’s match has all the ingredients to be an intense game. Sandburg will be playing the match with the added advantage of being on their home court. Despite that fact, Sandburg has been showing consistency in its overall season. They have been going
strong after the two losses suffered in the Buffalo Grove Tournament.
On the other hand, Marist is not an easy competitor either as they are the defending champions of the tournament. In case they make it all the way to the final and bag the decisive match, it will be the third consecutive time that Marist will be crowned
with the champion’s title.
Both the teams are entering tonight’s match with impressive performance records. Sandburg has 35 wins to its credit which have been achieved at the cost of suffering only three losses. On the other hand, Marist boasts 33 wins that have been secured after
tallying five defeats.
The styles of both the teams are different. Sandburg has been giving aggressive attacking performances that have earned them their success. Marist has been more on the defending side, following the lead of their rivals in most cases. Marist have not been
able to assert their position during the initial part of the games that they have recently played. Rather, they have managed to pull off a win after experiencing a deficit.
Playing in the home of Sandburg might just cost Marist the semi-final if they take on the same defencive pattern.
