Sandburg boys volleyball team defeats Lincoln-Way North on Monday
Sandburg boys volleyball team was able to make a clean sweep over their guests, Lincoln-Way North on Monday.
Not only did Lincoln-Way manage to win two back-to-back sets, they did so after winning each set of the game in a decisive fashion.
By the time that Sandburg was celebrating its smothering win over Lincoln-Way and the home fans were cheering their throats sore, the scoreboard read as 25-16 and 25-15.
It was a challenge for Sandburg to take on Lincoln-Way in such a dominating fashion. Sandburg had started off their visit by an impressive record that showed a total number of five wins. These victories had been bagged at the cost of suffering no defeat
at all. Therefore, handing out a loss to Lincoln-Way in such a strong fashion is something that Sandburg should be very proud of.
With their recent win, the overall season record of Sandburg features a total number of 20 victories. They have been able to accomplish this after incurring an impressively low number of losses that tally at only three.
In comparison, the number of times that Sandburg has been able to win in league matches total to be six. They have been able to bag these wins while suffering no loss at all.
From the winning team, it was team effort that led them to secure a well executed win. Both the attack and the defence of Sandburg were playing exceptionally well to keep the pressure on their opponents.
However, some players stood prominent amongst the rest of them. These were Kevin Groeper and Andrew Muys. Groeper was able to secure for his team two points on serving out aces. Muys kept the scoreboard ticking by adding six points that rained down relentlessly
on Lincoln-Way. Muys was supported by his team mate Bill Siroky by adding three kills of his own.
The first set of the match was started by the Eagles taking the dominance early on. Sandburg did not let Lincoln-Way take the lead and kept stretching their advantage. All that Lincoln-Way could do was to keep on the chase in a half-hearted fashion.
As a result, Sandburg was able to pull away easily and grab themselves the opening set of the game at 25-16. After Sandburg has built their momentum, it was not a hard job for them to bag another easy win in the second set at 25-15.
“We take each opponent seriously and look at what they have and try to take them out of their game,” Sandburg’s Bill Siroky said. “We always try to play to our strengths and take their strengths away.”
