Sandeep Sejwal pockets Men’s 100m breast-stroke gold medal – 2011 Singapore National Championships
Indian swimmer, Sandeep Sejwal, dominated the Men’s 100m breast-stroke final to earn the gold medal of the event on the concluding day of the 2011 Singapore National Swimming Championships.
Sejwal, who already owns the title of the 50m breast-stroke, pocketed his second gold medal of the event in a meet record time of 1 minute and 03.72 seconds. His time was considerably under the previous meet mark of 1 minute and 04.20 seconds, set by Sirisanont
Ratapong of Thailand in 2008.
The 21-year-old Sandeep was almost one second away from his following swimmer, Lionel Khoo of Chinese Swimming Club S’Pore, who touched the wall for the silver medal, by clocking a superb time of 1 minute and 04.48 seconds. The 15-year-old Khoo was only
0.18 seconds away from his subsequent swimmer, Nicko Biondi of Indonesia, who secured the bronze medal by touching the finishing wall in a third fastest time of 1 minute and 04.66 seconds.
The arena witnessed the stupendous efforts of two swimmers, Wei Xiong Parker Lam and Duan Le Kenneth Lim, who were trying to escape each other for the fourth fastest finish. Lam and Lim failed to overcome each other’s effort and touched the wall in a same
time of 1 minute and 05.70 seconds.
Moments later, Xin En Andrew Lim of Aquatic Performance Swim Club appeared on the finishing wall as the sixth fastest swimmer. Andrew Lim stayed only 0.69 seconds away from the duo of fourth position holders and touched the wall in a time of 1 minute and
06.39 seconds.
Joel Tan of Swimfast Aquatic Club was the second last swimmer to finish his swim, as he touched the wall for seventh position, with a timing of 1 minute and 06.54 seconds. He was followed by Wei Xiang Darrin Lam, who stood on the finishing wall for eight
position in a time of 1 minute and 06.85 seconds.
Sejwal was happy with his second victory of the meet and claimed that he will keep on improving his performance for future events.
