Sandeep Singh, Sardara Singh leave training-camp in Bangalore – Hockey News
Despite extensive efforts by the officials, the mayhem in the Indian Hockey is continued and exacerbating with every passing day. In an up-to-the-minute development, two senior players namely Sardara Singh and Sandeep Singh have left the camp. The action
from two senior players is being done when the national squad is going to leave for China to contest the maiden version of the Asian Champions Trophy scheduled to be held from September 3 to 11 in Ordos.
As per the media reports, the pair of senior hockey stars left the camp after they were mistreated by recently-appointed Indian Coach Michael Nobbs. Some of the reports claimed that the two were very sad and disturbed in the current situation that forced
them to leave the camp at the 11th hour. In the immediate action, the duo players will be dismissed from the national line-up and likely to be replaced with Vikas Sharma and VR Raghunath.
SS Grewal, the In-charge of the training camp added fuel to the matter by arguing with a couple of senior players. The two angry players decided to go away from the camp on Monday night but delayed their decision for some hours and did it in the next morning.
In the official version, both the players declared personal reasons behind this decision and left the camp after informing all the administrative staff. A news report quoting unnamed sources said that most of the players were not satisfied with the newly
appointed Australia-based trainer. It stated, “Several players are unhappy with the way things have unfolded ever since Nobbs has taken over. In fact, Nobbs has had very little say and most of the decisions are taken by Grewal. And the situation worsened after
(goalkeeper) Adrian (D’Souza) was left out of the squad.”
It is worth mention here that five Indian players including the aforementioned two were banned for training when they skipped the camp weeks ago to attend the media-ceremony of World Series Hockey (WSH).
The other players were Arjun Halappa, Prabhjot Singh and Adrian D’Souza who were not included in the final line-up for the Chinese tour. The former one was suffering from injuries while the latter two were not considered by the selectors.
Sandeep Singh, one of the two players left the camp also spoke with the media saying that he was not sure about his rejoining. He explained, “I have left because of personal reasons. My family needed me and that is why I had to leave the camp. Same is the
case with Sardara. I do not know right now when I will go back.”
No official including Chairman Disciplinary Committee Pargat Singh and HI Secretary Narinder Batra were available to comment on the exacerbating situation of the sport.
