Sanding and polishing an aluminum boat?

I bought a 12 foot aluminum boat recently. Ther is some paint on it. What kind of sanding equipment should I use. Also I would like to remove the scratches and polish the boat. How do I go about doing that also. Should you take the boat in to get polished or can I do it at home.

A good spray on/hose of aluminum conditioner will clean it up nice.  You don't want to "polish" it too much though, believe it or not there are DNR laws against "too much" glare [ I'm picturing you polishing it to a chrome-like finish, which I'm sure you aren't talking about].

I have heard that Flitz works well on aluminum and other metal surfaces.
