Sandra Fiedler fears Chong Wei’s injury will take more than four weeks – Badminton News
National Sports Institute physiotherapist Sandra Fiedler believes Lee Chong Wei may take more than four weeks to resume his activities as she wants Malaysian maestro to tread carefully on his road to recovery.
World Number one shuttler is undergoing a series of physiotherapy sessions and he is expected to recover at great speed to raise country’s flag in the 2012 London Olympics, which are now just two months away.
However, his physiotherapist Sandra Fiedler clearly stated that Chong Wei cannot start his normal training before early July as they want to ensure his healing process remains safe and accurate.
She said, "This is the first physiotherapy session and it is still too early to say. However, this injury normally takes between four to six weeks to heal. We have to make sure he stays fit during the rehabilitation period."
Sandra has a good track record of helping many shuttlers to recover from injuries as she watched the steps Wong Choong Hann and Lee Wan Wah in their race to recovery.
Though, she declared Chong Wei in much better physical condition than above mentioned players but she also added that still he will have to wait for a month to start his preparations for London Games.
The badminton king has been given two stem cells injections to stimulate his curing process but Sandra looks in no hurry as she briefed that they do not want Chong Wei to enter in court with some deficiency.
Moreover, she also told that he will be undergoing regular physiotherapy sessions in every morning.
Sandra said, "I wouldn't want to push it (the recovery) too soon as we have to be very careful that Chong Wei doesn't aggravate the injury. There will be frequent physiotherapy sessions in the morning."
Malaysian ace will also work out under supervision of Roesdi Ghani who will guide him to restore his upper body fitness.
Earlier, his doctors Saw Khay Yong and Nicholas Geary, after examining MRI report, confirmed that it is not a major injury rather just a ligament tear.
Meanwhile, national singles coach Tey Seu Bock looked positive about his recovery but he was bit worried about Chong Wei’s mental strength.
