Sandra Fielder impressed with Lee Chong Wei’s incredibly fast recovery from ankle injury
Sandra Fielder, the physio for Malaysia’s national team, was impressed with the incredible fast recovery made by the top shuttler Lee Chong Wei from his severe ankle injury he got during the Thomas Cup Finals 2012 in China in the last week of May.
Because of the injury Chong Wei, who is currently World Number Two in Men’s Singles world ranking, could not participate in two important tournaments including Indonesia Open Premier Super Series and Singapore Open Super Series that pushed him down from
the number one position in the world.
According to doctors, it should have taken him at least six weeks to recover from that kind of injury but Chong Wei showed a steely determination and stunned everyone by recovering from the injury in just over three weeks that shows his hunger for a medal
at Olympics.
Chong Wei’s physio was not expecting such a fast recovery and is quite impressed with the healing progress.
She stated, “An injury like this would usually take six weeks to heal. Lee started earlier because we are so close to the Olympic Games. He stayed off it for three-and-a-half weeks and started training again, which is fast for that kind of injury. It was
quite a severe ankle sprain.”
While talking about the weather conditions of England, Sandra said that for avoiding any uncharacteristic problems they have good arrangements as they have brought their own chefs with them who will prepare meals that will keep the shuttlers cope up with
the cold weather of London.
She further added, “We bring our own chefs. This is cold weather for Malaysia. So we need hot herb soup, porridge and rice.”
The 29-year-old Chong Wei is among the top contenders for a medal in Men’s Singles category at the mega event as he is the only shuttler in the draw who can challenge China’s power packed line-up including Lin Dan, Chen Long and Chen Jin.
The upcoming London Olympics will be the last event for Malaysian golden boy as he has already declared to quite competitive badminton in 2014.
Many people think that Chong Wei will live up to expectations considering the fact that he has last chance to win a gold medal in Olympic Games and will go all out to make his dream a reality.
