Sandra Gal leading the Avnet LPGA Classic after second round – Golf news
German golfer Sandra Gal is leading after posting a five under par in the second round of the Avnet LPGA Classic golf tournament.
Playing at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Magnolia Grove Crossings Course in Alabama, Gal is leading Amy Yang by one stroke. She is at a seven under par overall after two rounds of the tournament. At third place is first round leader Song-Hee Kim,
winner of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Stacy Lewis and Sun Young Yoo.
Gal did not get off to a good start as she bogeyed the second hole. She made a birdie on the fourth, sixth and eighth holes. A bogey on the ninth hole broke the amazing momentum as Gal made the turn at three under par. On the back-nine, she bogeyed hole
number ten. However, Gal went on a role after that as she birdied five of her last eight holes. The German player birdied holes eleven to thirteen. She ended really well as she birdied the 16th and 17th hole as well.
“Obviously, I'm playing well,” Gal said. “I'm just enjoying myself out there. I mean, I'm not doing anything really different. I've been playing solid since the end of last year. Just winning, you know, I think you get more comfortable at the top. Being
in the lead is something. You know, to be there and feel comfortable there, so that's probably the difference now.”
She did agree that she had a slow start. The bogeys did stop her for some time but the birdie spree truly put her right back on track. Gal’s opening round of average consisted of five birdies and three bogeys.
The major winner, Lewis had a decent day as she made three birdies and two bogeys. The defending champion Se Ri Pak is tied for sixth place with four other players. Pak made three bogeys and four birdies in the second round to be at seven under par overall.
With Gal not leading by a big margin, anything is expected in the upcoming rounds of the Avnet LPGA Classic.
